Welcome to the MVP show.
00:00:07.955 --> 00:00:17.289
My intention is that you listen to the stories of these MVP guests and are inspired to become an MVP and bring value to the world through your skills.
00:00:17.289 --> 00:00:23.211
If you have not checked it out already, I do a YouTube series called how to Become an MVP.
00:00:23.211 --> 00:00:24.946
The link is in the show notes.
00:00:24.946 --> 00:00:31.210
With that, let's get on with the show.
00:00:31.210 --> 00:00:37.145
Today's guest is all the way from India.
00:00:37.145 --> 00:00:39.210
He works at EY as a technical lead.
00:00:39.210 --> 00:00:41.706
He was first awarded as MVP in 2024.
00:00:41.706 --> 00:00:51.231
His expertise spans Power Apps, power Automate and Dataverse, leveraging Azure services to deliver holistic solutions to his customers.
00:00:51.231 --> 00:00:55.607
You can find links to his bio and social media in the show notes for this episode.
00:00:55.607 --> 00:00:57.292
Welcome to the show, prashant.
00:00:57.979 --> 00:01:09.185
Thanks for that good introduction to Mark Smith for me, like even I haven't prepared that much a long discussion about myself, so thanks for that.
00:01:09.745 --> 00:01:15.200
So hey, everyone awesome, tell me, tell me Prashant food, family and fun.
00:01:15.200 --> 00:01:16.061
What do they mean to you?
00:01:16.641 --> 00:01:16.981
okay.
00:01:16.981 --> 00:01:30.781
So whenever we talk about this food, family and fun, I would say when we are not doing any work, so what we can do at that time, so obviously I'll go for the fun.
00:01:30.781 --> 00:01:46.240
Like what I generally do is like I like this web series, like that we that is available on the netflix and all, and I personally like crime and thrillers because, yeah, because I belongs to the backbenchers family of from the school.
00:01:46.240 --> 00:01:50.629
Okay, so that's how I invest or I waste my time.
00:01:50.629 --> 00:02:03.027
Food, yeah, food is like if someone has prepared something for good for me, I can take it easily, but it's not like I want to prepare this for myself yeah, but do you have a favorite?
00:02:03.046 --> 00:02:03.206
what's?
00:02:03.206 --> 00:02:04.609
What's your favorite dish?
00:02:05.531 --> 00:02:08.401
my favorite dish is a milk cake.
00:02:08.401 --> 00:02:09.704
Uh, it's a sweet.
00:02:09.704 --> 00:02:15.203
That is available in india and it's not that costly, but yes, little bit nice.
00:02:15.784 --> 00:02:19.576
So if I came and visited you would be going and having milk cake.
00:02:19.576 --> 00:02:25.889
Sure, nice sounds good, sounds good, maybe this year, maybe this year.
00:02:26.531 --> 00:02:32.830
Um, tell me about your family okay, so, uh, I currently live with my family.
00:02:32.830 --> 00:02:37.701
My family has a people that belongs to multiple professions.
00:02:37.701 --> 00:02:44.133
Okay, like my father is a graphic designer, my mom is a housewife, who take care of the home.
00:02:44.133 --> 00:02:56.182
Obviously my mom, my sister is, belongs to the medical, like she's a government nurse, my brother is a planner and I belongs to this it industry.
00:02:56.182 --> 00:03:06.081
So it's like everyone belongs to different, different domain and then when, whenever they just sit together, it's like it's hard to just talk on a single topic.
00:03:06.682 --> 00:03:13.748
Yeah, I bet that's exciting because everyone has a different, different interest and different, different areas to work and different type of knowledge that they are having.
00:03:13.748 --> 00:03:16.262
So, yeah, I like it.
00:03:16.301 --> 00:03:21.491
That's the background tell me, tell me about, uh.
00:03:21.491 --> 00:03:35.502
Why did you know, with such a diverse choice of careers that was happening in your family and your father being a graphic designer, what made you decide that, uh, it was going to be where you built your career?
00:03:36.043 --> 00:03:40.427
okay, see, uh, when I was in my 12th, standards okay.
00:03:40.427 --> 00:03:45.735
So I used to do the programming in in the computer language.
00:03:45.735 --> 00:03:46.014
Okay.
00:03:46.014 --> 00:03:59.013
Later, uh, since my uncle belongs to the automation industry like automation people who are doing the programming for the microcontrollers okay, so they wanted me to go to the automation industry.
00:03:59.013 --> 00:04:03.866
So I did my uh graduation from that domain automation.
00:04:04.388 --> 00:04:11.447
When I was working in that automation, one of the manager noticed me and he said you like programming?
00:04:11.447 --> 00:04:11.948
I said yes.
00:04:11.948 --> 00:04:16.483
He said okay, you are not interested in in assembling of it.
00:04:16.483 --> 00:04:18.507
I said it's not like that.
00:04:18.507 --> 00:04:23.966
But yes, if you ask me, like what is my priority or what is my top preference, then I would be doing the programming.
00:04:23.966 --> 00:04:30.461
Then he said prashant, then your career would be like, if you go to the it, there you will find your type of people.
00:04:30.461 --> 00:04:47.834
And also, like in my 12, like I used to deliver lectures to my tuition peoples, like I was living some tuitions for some, some kids, so I used to train them in programming at that time.
00:04:48.879 --> 00:04:56.168
So that's how I decided okay, let's try to give interview to some IT industry and see if I would be selected or not.
00:04:56.168 --> 00:05:02.848
If I would be selected, then I would go for the IT industry, otherwise I will continue my automation.
00:05:02.848 --> 00:05:28.850
When I went, when I go to this it industry for my interview out of around 22 people were there and the person who was taking that interview he just gave me some sort of a logic that needs to be implemented, okay, and he asked me okay, prashant, that you don't belongs to the it, that you haven't done your graduation from any programming language, but if you tell me the logic how you can build that type of a system, I will hire you.
00:05:28.850 --> 00:05:31.504
That's how he just took my interview.
00:05:31.504 --> 00:05:34.134
So I said, okay, but I know that programming.
00:05:34.134 --> 00:05:44.533
So I wrote a program and it worked accidentally and, yes, I was selected out of 22 candidates.
00:05:44.533 --> 00:05:56.464
So then I just decided, okay, now I might play a better role in IT as compared to automation.
00:05:56.464 --> 00:05:58.367
So, yeah, that's how I moved into this industry.
00:05:58.869 --> 00:06:02.093
How many years have you been now working with the Power Platform?
00:06:06.899 --> 00:06:08.000
no-transcript.
00:06:08.000 --> 00:06:11.620
I was enrolled as a Dynamics people.
00:06:11.620 --> 00:06:26.776
Okay, and if you remember this Power Platform, like, I categorize this Power Platform as a child of Dynamics CRM okay, because many concepts, whatever you are utilizing in Power Platform maximum, are coming from the Dynamics itself.
00:06:26.776 --> 00:06:32.999
Okay, although Dynamics is a vast field to explore if you have time or if I have time.
00:06:32.999 --> 00:06:44.569
So, like, I started with dynamics and at the time, like PowerApp was just growing, like it was in the starting of 2019, like PowerApp coming to the market in 2016.
00:06:44.569 --> 00:06:47.464
So it took three years to just settle.
00:06:47.464 --> 00:06:49.555
And in 2019, we were having some demand.
00:06:49.555 --> 00:06:51.677
Okay, so that's how I started in 2019.
00:06:51.677 --> 00:06:52.220
Were having some demand?
00:06:52.220 --> 00:06:53.447
Okay, so that's how I start in 2019.
00:06:53.447 --> 00:06:55.452
And then, yes, it's around 2025.
00:06:55.452 --> 00:07:01.564
So you can assume five to six years that I've invested here that's cool.
00:07:01.624 --> 00:07:19.851
That's cool out of all the tools in the power platform uh, which is your favorite, as in power apps, automate pages, power effects, dataverse, uh co-pilot studio, my preference.
00:07:19.971 --> 00:07:25.382
Like then I would say power automate would be my, my top choice.
00:07:25.382 --> 00:07:29.216
Because the thing is like, if I uh, it's not just like delivering something, it's, it's about what value it is giving to the customers.
00:07:29.216 --> 00:07:32.887
Okay, I'm not saying like the something, it's about what value it is giving to the customers.
00:07:32.887 --> 00:07:38.077
Okay, I'm not saying like the other components are delivering less values, it's not like that.
00:07:38.077 --> 00:07:46.158
The thing is like, whenever we are talking about the automation since I was coming from the automation, so I might be a little inclined towards the automation, okay.
00:07:46.158 --> 00:08:09.432
So when I found, okay, like many days, we are doing some repetitions of work, okay, so, okay, like mind is we are doing some repetitions of work, okay, so why can't we just deliver an automation that can do that work, although, like the power app, a low code platform through which you can deliver some sort of a user interface for your client, that is also a important pillar of this power platform.
00:08:09.432 --> 00:08:14.593
But personally, I feel power automate is my choice interesting.
00:08:14.773 --> 00:08:15.194
That's cool.
00:08:15.194 --> 00:08:22.416
I mean, everyone has the one that they excel in right and power automate is is one of those rock solid tools out there.
00:08:22.416 --> 00:08:25.382
Are you doing any robotic process automation rpa?
00:08:25.382 --> 00:08:27.815
Are you using uh, power automate rpa?
00:08:27.815 --> 00:08:29.880
Have you done anything with the desktop flows?
00:08:30.802 --> 00:08:35.658
Yeah, like we were asked to do some sort of a desktop automation.
00:08:35.658 --> 00:08:38.676
So, yes, we delivered a project in that area.
00:08:38.676 --> 00:08:47.158
So desktop automation is like where you would need a machine where things would work and cloud is something that it would run on the cloud side, right?
00:08:47.158 --> 00:08:55.417
So if you are asking any example, then if I give you the interesting example that I did for the desktop automation.
00:08:55.417 --> 00:09:02.446
It's like a company is uploading their data on the Dynamics AX.
00:09:03.591 --> 00:09:16.652
Before this financial operation, people used to use this Dynamics AX to upload their finance data, to upload their finance data.
00:09:16.652 --> 00:09:21.488
So we were fetching that data and they have given us some sort of a template, some sort of excel template that is a compact form of their finance.
00:09:21.488 --> 00:09:30.677
Okay, so we were downloading some reports from the ax, pasting it to the excel and then preparing a single, single line of a summary from it.
00:09:30.677 --> 00:09:34.389
Okay, so there we have used this desktop automation.
00:09:34.389 --> 00:09:46.243
It's like downloading, pasting some excel, running some, running some, some some sort of macros on the excel so that it would it would prepare a single line of a summary of whole, of whole financial data.
00:09:46.243 --> 00:09:50.875
Okay, and then sending emails to the owners of the stakeholders.
00:09:50.875 --> 00:09:55.259
So that's sort of a thing that we did who's had the biggest influence on your career?
00:09:56.182 --> 00:09:56.841
influence.
00:09:56.841 --> 00:10:06.264
Okay, I would say the person to who has interviewed me into the it industry ah.
00:10:06.785 --> 00:10:07.807
So do you still work with them?
00:10:07.807 --> 00:10:11.197
Are they still a friend, or do they guide you, do they mentor you?
00:10:11.217 --> 00:10:14.674
okay, the thing is like he was the owner of our organization.
00:10:14.674 --> 00:10:21.756
Okay, and since that organization was a startup, so you can understand that in every startup, you always have the budget issues.
00:10:21.756 --> 00:10:24.602
Okay, yes, so I used to.
00:10:24.602 --> 00:10:38.714
I used to go with him for every sort of action that, whatever is going on in any organization, whether that belongs to delivery, whether that belongs to operations, whether that belongs to marketing sales, at every other place I was, I was with him.
00:10:38.714 --> 00:10:52.924
So he used to train me like it's not, like there's a two type of fishes one fish that live in a small pond and the fish is big, and another one is like a big ocean, but this fish is small.
00:10:52.924 --> 00:11:01.504
So how you want your career to be, whether you want a face in a small sea or you want a big fish in a small pond.
00:11:01.504 --> 00:11:15.072
So that's how, like he said, we don't get every time all the resources or all the things that we need, but it's on us how we are going to manipulate our things in order to achieve what we actually need.
00:11:16.315 --> 00:11:29.409
Like he too was a good software or developer, but within two or three years, he decided to start his own business in that area and later he just shifted his business.
00:11:29.409 --> 00:11:41.996
Okay, like, after some years he he got bored from this IT industry so he decided to move his business into the food industry and later he moved to the real estate.
00:11:41.996 --> 00:11:45.738
So that's how I was like a person should not be limited to one area.
00:11:45.738 --> 00:11:50.514
Okay, he should be covering things from multiple places.
00:11:50.514 --> 00:11:52.816
Okay, what other people are doing?
00:11:52.816 --> 00:11:58.841
How they are doing what we can do in order to contribute in that in their domains?
00:11:58.841 --> 00:12:10.774
Okay, so, yeah, I liked his mindset and that's how I started my journey, like, okay, I should not be just doing the office work, I should be doing something for the communities.
00:12:10.774 --> 00:12:19.600
Okay, yeah, so that's how, like, he just impressed me and he just gave me that mindset to go with this path.
00:12:20.802 --> 00:12:21.903
So how did you end up at ey?
00:12:23.211 --> 00:12:37.433
okay, see, um, when I was in that startup, um, I served to so many mncs like, like, okay, like some Infosys, pwc and many others, okay, and some small corporates too.
00:12:37.433 --> 00:12:46.115
Later I found like I should now like I invested there around three and three, three plus three plus years there, only Okay.
00:12:46.115 --> 00:12:50.438
Later I decided, okay, I know how this startup actually works.
00:12:50.438 --> 00:12:52.717
But that would not be sufficient.
00:12:52.717 --> 00:12:54.798
I should know how the big corporates work.
00:12:54.798 --> 00:13:00.120
So I decided, okay, now let's try my career in some other MNC.
00:13:00.120 --> 00:13:05.979
So I thought, okay, I can just try in Essentia, I can try in TCS, many more.
00:13:05.979 --> 00:13:08.937
So I decided, okay, let's try to take a jump.
00:13:08.937 --> 00:13:10.120
That would be good.
00:13:10.120 --> 00:13:13.738
So I decided, okay, let's move to the big four.
00:13:13.979 --> 00:13:17.456
Like you know, like this EY belongs to big four Of the world, right?
00:13:17.456 --> 00:13:29.317
So that's how I I even I I was when I was delivering some work into the communities I got a person like I can't just tell the name of that person here.
00:13:29.317 --> 00:13:32.735
Like, I helped her.
00:13:32.735 --> 00:13:37.716
Like I used to help people whenever they just struck into the implementation of Power Platform.
00:13:37.716 --> 00:13:42.432
I was open for everyone through my social medias, like, if you get struck, you can just ping me.
00:13:42.432 --> 00:13:44.513
If I get some time I will definitely help you out.
00:13:44.513 --> 00:13:54.918
So I helped a person through my LinkedIn and she asked me Prashant, if you want to explore your career in EY, please let me know.
00:13:54.918 --> 00:13:57.472
I said, okay, let's try then.
00:13:57.472 --> 00:14:00.913
So that's how I come to this EY.
00:14:02.725 --> 00:14:06.014
Okay, so without saying her name, what was the question that she had?
00:14:06.053 --> 00:14:14.916
that you solved okay, uh, if I remember like it was in the 2022 somewhere around april.
00:14:14.916 --> 00:14:36.932
Okay, uh, she needed to build some sort of a filtration process in the, in a grid that we can add inside our power app, and some sort of automation that she wanted to implement for her client, and she was confused whether that implementation would be reliable or not.
00:14:36.932 --> 00:14:45.956
So I said, okay, I provided her two different types of approaches to implement his scenario and both were reliable.
00:14:45.956 --> 00:14:50.350
So I gave her the chance okay, you can just proceed with any one of them and it would be good.
00:14:50.350 --> 00:14:53.852
So that's how I started.
00:14:53.852 --> 00:15:07.974
She was my friend and then we used to talk and I used to solve her queries not on a regular basis, but, yeah, like once a month or maybe twice a month and then, after some months, I moved to EY.
00:15:07.974 --> 00:15:10.750
She belongs to EY already.
00:15:11.365 --> 00:15:16.498
Now, when you look at 2025, what's your big goals for this year?
00:15:18.548 --> 00:15:26.433
Okay, nice question, if I understand this last year when I was awarded for this mvp.
00:15:26.433 --> 00:15:33.414
Okay, so I got to know that this mvp is not just a reward that you got.
00:15:33.414 --> 00:15:43.816
It's about more type of a responsibility that you will get and people would expect you that you would continue your, your, your delivery in addition to the community helps.
00:15:43.816 --> 00:15:45.379
Okay.
00:15:45.379 --> 00:16:05.990
So I decided, okay, I will be start doing some sort of uh, communities entertainments, not just entertainment, like right now I just provide support through some online medium, but people just ask me like, why can't you just come to some events and deliver some lectures or deliver some trainings?
00:16:05.990 --> 00:16:10.418
I do that trainings, but in in my internal e-y.
00:16:10.418 --> 00:16:18.813
Okay, so, yeah, that's my goal for 2025, that I should start focusing to go to events as a speaker.
00:16:18.813 --> 00:16:22.179
Like, yeah, so that's my goal?
00:16:23.048 --> 00:16:25.094
are you speaking engagements?
00:16:25.094 --> 00:16:30.032
Are you just just restricting your focus on India, or are you going to go abroad?
00:16:30.384 --> 00:16:33.830
Based on the chance that I got, I'll look into that.
00:16:33.830 --> 00:16:51.793
Obviously, if you get a chance to just talk globally or just to move out of EY and then deliver that lecture, that would be also good because that's how you would increase your network and network has a different, a key for your career.
00:16:51.793 --> 00:16:54.770
I would say, like network is a key in your career.
